Having my babies was the greatest joy of my life and I bet it'll bet yours too!
You want to capture this special time and remember all the remarkable feelings and excitement of adding to your family, or maybe you're not sure that you feel that good.
If you're feeling anything like I was toward the end, you just want this baby OUT! Am I right?
Seriously though, with all the anticipation and knowing your life is about to change forever, having your photo taken when you may be feeling like a beached whale can be a bit daunting.
Trust me when I say, you look beautiful! You are glowing! And you deserve to have one last day of pampering that's all about you (and your bump) to remember this wonderful time before your little one arrives.
So what happens at a maternity photo session?
Well I take your photo of course, that goes without saying.
Honestly though, it's more about the preparation leading up to your shoot, as much as it is about having a wonderful, relaxed, fun time while you're in the studio.
I'm sure you've looked through heaps of photographers websites and all the pretty pictures, maybe you've even contacted a few.
To make sure you get the best out of your maternity photography session, I recommend a few things for you to think about.
Do you like the photographers pictures?
If you've contacted a photographer, have they responded quickly with all the information you asked for? Or at least set a time to call you?
Are you prepared to meet your photographer and view their Studio BEFORE you book your maternity photography session, or at least have a good chat over the phone?
Do you know if you want to be photographed in a studio or outside in a special location?
Whats included in your session? Do you have to find clothes to wear (for you, your partner, any children you already have), do you have to get your hair and makeup done, what about your finger nails?
Yes that's right, your hands will be on display too, nicely manicured finger nails can actually make a big difference to your photos. You don't have to go over the top with acrylic or gel overlays if you don't want to, an even length is enough with a buff and polish.
What about after you've had your photos taken?
How long will it take before you get to see your photos?
How are you going to display your photos? Do you know if you want to hang a photo on the wall, or display on a desk or table.
Do you want individual prints or would you like an album?
Are you getting your new baby's photos taken too? With the same photographer? Can you have a few of your maternity photos in an album with your new baby's photos?
WOW! That's a lot to think about!
Your experience starts with:
A Studio tour and personal consultation with me, so we can get to know each other, we'll chat about where you'd like to have your photos taken (Studio or location) as well as the options, and there are many, available to display your photos.
Then it's onto what you'd like to wear, we'll go through the gowns, drapes and materials here in the studio, so you don't have to buy anything new or worry about finding something in your wardrobe that fits and looks good. Together we'll come up with a plan for your partners (and any childrens) clothes.
If you're unable to make it into the studio or live a distance away, we can do this by video call.
Once you've booked, well stay in touch with a call or two before your session.
When you arrive to warm friendly, excited greetings, we'll sit you down and the pampering begins.
You can soak your feet in a foot spa, or just put them up and relax.
Your hair and makeup will be taken care of and light refreshments are on offer.
When your natural beauty has been enhanced and you've changed into the first of your selected gowns, in front of the camera you go.
You'll be guided through all the posing (which usually results in lots of laughs , I like to ham it up) while I capture the beauty of you in your pregnancy.
Once I've taken more photos than anyone could possibly have wall space for, you and I (and your partner too if he's here for the photo shoot) will preview your photos and select your favourites from your session.
Yes that's right, you get to see your photos straight away!
Your selection is then retouched and edited lovingly by hand, and your products ordered.
Once your final prints arrive in the studio for inspection, I will call you to arrange the best option to get them to you.
